Seeking out Spectres

Martini smiled at her own reflection idly as she went over her outfit carefully, remembering the muted conversation she heard in an alleyway that afternoon. The crimson jacket, formal to the point of almost being military which sharpened her shoulders but still added a fierce feminine flair to her petite form, hugged her upper body tightly. Her elbows were sharp when she bent her arms, sleeves pulling tight. Good, if she got into a fist fight with a wild Pokemon loose sleeves could be a handle and handles were generally a pain. Of all the gorgeous clothing items she has managed to snatch from the local dry cleaner this pristine jacket had to be one of her best finds. Underneath the recently pressed jacket was her standard black cardigan and skirt combo. The outfit embraced her lithe body, accentuating her curves and hugging her form to the point that she felt like she was practically wearing nothing. Her well kept black gloves had the appearance of very slim, feminine gauntlets, shined leather with intricate embroidery running down the fingers, practically invisible to the eye, these too were stolen. Her slender feet were fitted with specially made boots, which were not only exceedingly comfortable and made her legs look longer but also provided her protection and added grip on particularly dangerous surfaces.

"Sweetie! We are going to find ourselves something nice today!", she murmured into the crisp air, smirking at her herself when the air next to her began to shimmer. Almost out of nowhere an adorable little ghost twirled into the space next to her, a shrill giggle escaping its lips. Misdreavus was the girl's partner in crime and best friend, a kooky little Pokemon with a penchant for kleptomania.

Turning back to the mirror, the thief brushed her thumb along her cheekbone in the mirror, piercing cerulean eyes running over her own face. It seemed... less real when she saw her own reflection, like she took a less distinct place in this universe. She was no longer just some girl but an infamous thief, a wily trainer'. It might have been worrying if it wasn't also just a little thrilling. Martini finally took hold of a selection of jewellery, both purchased from her own stash of money and stolen from various houses in the neighbouring area. A polished silver and shimmering obsidian necklace fell against her chest, nestling comfortably between her perky bosom. Once that was done, she took a moment to apply a little mascara to her eyes, just to add the finishing touches to her look. Everything seemed to be working well and with one more quick look at her outfitted body she stepped into the little space she called an apartment, a space that wasn't necessarily her own but the original occupants seemed to have moved on...or died. It didn't really matter actually, Misdreavus and her enjoyed its comfort and that's all that mattered.

The thief had recently found the small but cozy apartment nestled in the outskirts of the city of Mistviel city. It wasn't that roomy, but it came with its own shower, kitchen and workspace and was large enough for her practise training with her limbless pokemon. She was used to living in small compartments from a child hood of moving across the countryside, the only difference with this one was that she was completely alone. The only company she had was the little ghost and the horde of goodies she had snatched on her daily 'runs'.

The strawberry blonde thief did a quick glance about, before she descended the stairs and opened onto the silvery moonlight of a Mistveil Evening. A Very expensive car had been pulled into an empty building lot next to her apartment complex, a few streets from the cave that she had been 'informed' to be at. The vehicle was obviously not her own, rather something a very rich and very drunk tycoon had left unattended whilst flirting his way through a nightclub. The teenage girl merely took it on herself to snatch up the beautiful car, hot-wire it and hide it away from prying eyes. It was easy enough to break the chain and drive inside, after a long couple of nights drive out of Skyvane city. The tycoon would never suspect his beautiful vehicle was now several miles away in the hands of what many would label as a minor. She was in no way going to use the stolen item anytime that night...she needed some well deserved fresh air before her 'date'.

Rather then take the pavements, however, Martini scaled a fire escape close by, Misdreavus following closely behind. She grabbed the rusted iron and clasped onto cracks between the masonry, lifting herself upwards with ease and fluid grace as she proceeded to bring herself further up the building. Once flipping her body over the lip of the roof she took in a deep breath, marvelling at the glowing cityscape a few kilometres away. Her shimmering strawberry blonde hair fluttered in the gentle night breeze, tickling the side of her face as she momentarily listened to the sound of night activity. A walk across the rooftops seemed like a fine idea, breathing in the smell of petrol fumes from the street below and the sound of a city buzzing with activity was always a surefire way to awaken her instincts. Most places in the world looked alike, but the sounds were mostly unique. Martini loved listening to the chattering of couples, the distant shrill cries of pokemon and the low hum of music wafting out of people's apartments.

The girl only had to do a few tricks to traverse the block, one of them involving a slightly precarious walk across a tight wire over the street below which she completed with ease. Soon enough her trek through the outskirts of the city took her to the lip of the cave. A rather ominous appeture that driled into the dark stones surrounding it.The cave was shrouded in darkness, with a few people wandering into it as she observed the soft golden glow that drifted out deep within its belly. There was probably hikers in there.

Misdreavus let out a low coo, floating just above the girl's head as it intensely stared into the cave.
"Okay cutie! We're going to go inside, as quiet as a rattata remember. No attacking people unless I say so okay?" the thief grinned, cupping her dainty hands around Misdreavus's little head. It was time to begin their little adventure!

Without further ado and giving her ghostly accomplice a little grin the girl set forth into the cave, not looking back as she swallowed by the stale hungry stone. Time to find a new friend.

Zorua crept through the fog gliding soundlessly across the worn rock and weaving around obstacles shrouded in the fog. It was used to its home, like the other pokemon who lived there it had memorized the layout and could move through the fog unobstructed. Then it came across something unusual, it heard the voice of a human and a pokemons call. It decided to investigate and play around with the human in the cave, it could be a fun enterprise. So moving soundlessly once again it came to a place where he could see what the human looked like, after memorizing her appearance it made an illusion of her around itself and walked forward until it stood in front of her. He intended to have the illusion copy all the girls movements to frighten and confuse her even more.

Shadows embraced the duo as they made their gradual descent into the musty darkness of shroud cave. Lone footsteps echoed into the rocky void, the faint coos of a little ghost providing a haunting melody to the infamous cave. The encroaching mist levelled Martini's vision into a particularly troublesome blur, her eyes were still getting used to the lack of light. Of course, for someone of her 'profession', lighting or the lack thereof were essential parts of whether she made a successful 'snatch' or not. Too bright and there'll definitely be a larger chance of being caught and too dark and her hands might slip. Such was the life of a thief, whose very lifestyle was influenced by the environment and the people present.

As of yet, there had been no human contact several yards into the gaping mouth of the cave. There was the occasional flicker of a shadow, unknown scratching against unseen stone or the ominous whispers of the wind. It would have been terrifying if it weren't so comforting, the silence was a welcome change from the constant bustle of the city. Misdreavus certainly looked like she was at home,  not only was she discovered near the cave but rumour was it that the more ethereal pokemon had a connection to the cave. Was it some hidden dark energy or was it the gloomy temperature? No one was entirely sure but it was certainly a place where a lot of urban legends were born.

The walls seemed to tighten as the girl made her slow descent deeper into the throat of the cave. Mysterious fluttering of wings breezed overhead, probably a coven of Zubats disturbed by her entry. The bat's were a nuisance, a great one in fact and it took a very controlled sense of movement to avoid getting attacked by a swarm of them.

"Hihi", the light giggle escaped Misdreavus' lips as they slinked through the darkness. The cheeky little sprite was more than content following her trainer around, almost entertained by Martini's grace and agility.

It was only until Martini turned past the corner of a jagged obsidian boulder did she hear some rustling in the nearby vicinity. Her eyesight was entirely dependant on the scarlet glow emanating off Misdreavus' orbs. A pang of fear settled deep into the heart of the thief, her thoughts returning to the urban legends whispered about the cave. Many said that if you wander too far you'll meet your own spirit, an indication you were nearing hell itself. Shaking her head of the paranoia Martini took a tentative step forward, nodding to the little ghost to stay close.

"Keep your eyes peeled cutie", Martini muttered, glancing at her pokemon once more to see if she was still there. She was. But there was also another right next to her.

Standing amidst the darkness like a lost spirit was a mirage, a cruel doppelgänger of almost unbelievable likeness. Martini let out a gasp, her skin instantly covered in bumps as a jolt traversed the length of her spine. Had she reached hell? Misdreavus let out a low slightly confused laugh, there was now two Martinis. The ghost was clearly flabbergasted with the whole scenario and quickly glanced from the real martini to the fake and back to her master. What on earth was happening.

Touching her face with tentative fingers Martini stared at her reflection, taking in every detail like it was an artwork. Was she really that pale? Taking in a deep breath, the girl slowly and carefully rifled through her bag. She wasn't sure if this was a Pokemon, a spirit or some cruel Tv prank but there was one thing she was sure of, that her pepper spray hurt whenever it hit something.

With one swift motion Martini procured the cylindrical vial of pepper spray, flipping it her grip before spraying it in the direction of the copy.
"THAT'S RIGHT! AIN'T NO ONE COPIES THIS!", the thief hollered with a dark smirk, rattling the can until her copy had retreated.

"Misdreavus use growl!", Martini trumpeted, pointing at whatever it was that had frightened her.

She copied the humans movements exactly with her illusion, pulling out the strange can of spray and holding in a snicker as the contents shot over her through the illusion. Then she had the illusion change form and grow becoming a larger more ghastly form of the girl. The illusion leaned down over the girls and shrieked in a shrill copy of the humans voice, echoing through the cave.
